The Annual Scientific Conference (ASC) is the Academy’s annual premier event through which all the Fellows and stakeholders relevant are convened in a conversation on a topical issue of national concern. Through the ASC, the Academy successfully achieves one of its objectives of providing an independent platform through which scientists exchange ideas, knowledge and experiences on topical issues that foster national development. This event takes place every last Friday of October of every calendar year. Over the years a variety of themes from different sectors of the economy including Education, Health, Agriculture, Environment, Human Resources and many others are presented and discussed by peer experts and later discussed by plenary in the 1st session of the conference. During the 2nd session, eminent scientists from both within and outside the country are inducted into the Academy Fellowship and they are able to join a high-level independent distinguished expert of the country. These scientists are nominated, shortlisted and vetted through a rigorous process by the Fellows and Membership Committee and a Select Committee that makes recommendations to Council. This whole event is organized by Publications and Conferences a standing committee of the UNAS Council.
