Nomination of eminent scientist to the Fellowship of the Academy 2026 – Deadline: June 30, 2026

Dear UNAS Fellows,

Greetings from the UNAS Secretariat. Uganda National Academy of Sciences inducts new members into the Fellowship of the Academy every year on the last Friday of October every year. Therefore, the purpose of this email is to remind you to nominate eminent scientists to the Fellowship of the Academy. Just so you know, the deadline for nominating eminent scientists to the Fellowship of the Academy has been extended to 30 June 2026.

Please note that nominations for election into the Membership of the Academy (as a Fellow) shall be made by any two Fellows of the Academy; such nominations shall be made in writing and shall be personally addressed to the President of the Academy. Any two (2) Fellows of the Academy shall nominate a potential candidate by completing the requisite Nomination Form and addressing the nomination to the President. Nominators are required to send the nomination documents to Louis Javuru via email at ljavuru@unas.org.ug, unas@unas.org.ug.

A nomination shall be on the pertinent Nomination Form and shall, among other things, include:

a. A completed UNAS Fellows nomination form endorsed by the Nominator, Seconder, and Nominee

b. A concise statement on the most significant contribution to the sciences of the candidate;

c. Reasons why the candidate meets the criteria for being a Fellow.

The statement shall be accompanied by:

Updated curriculum vitae of the nominee;
Names of 5 referees and full addresses;
List and pdf versions of at least 12 most outstanding publications of the candidate; (Please note that a nominee can submit more than the minimum 12 twelve publications); and a,
Biodata of the nominee.

NOTE:

  1. Nomination form for Fellows of Uganda National Academy of Sciences is attached. The nominators, seconders, and nominees are required to ensure that the nomination forms/letters are signed. Electronic signatures on the forms are accepted. Nominators and seconders are expected to send the nomination forms to the Secretariat and also ensure they are in good standing regarding annual membership subscription as Fellows of the Academy.
  2. Kindly note that the nominations are to be received by the UNAS Secretariat before the deadline of June 30 2026.
  3. Nominees are also required to submit soft copies of the nomination documents to the UNAS Secretariat using the address indicated above.
  4. Issues of integrity and ethical records are to be considered when nominating candidates for the fellowship of the Academy and due diligence will be conducted.
  5. The nominee to the fellowship of the Academy should be the first author or corresponding author in at least 50% of the publications out of the twelve required.
  6. Conference papers, thesis, and dissertations will not be accepted and the publications will be checked for quality e.g. predatory journals.
  7. Nominators and seconders are required to do due diligence on the nominees they seek to nominate to the Fellowship and identify nominees who meet the criteria. Issues of integrity and ethical records were to be considered when nominating candidates for the fellowship of the Academy and due diligence should be conducted before, during, and just before the induction ceremony.
