UNAS recognizes outstanding professional achievements of individuals in the areas of the arts, sciences, and humanities through induction into its Fellowship. Individuals are nominated by their peers within the Academy. The nomination process is followed by vetting within the Academy structures. During its Annual Scientific Conference, new Fellows are inducted into the Academy.
Advise
In the manner of many science academies around the world, UNAS provides unparalleled service to society by providing authoritative, credible, neutral, evidence-informed advice the Government of Uganda and the nation on all matters of science, technology, innovation, and development. The Academy is uniquely placed to advise on matters of the present and future because of its independence and non-political stance as an Academy for the entire nation. . The Academy’s work is underpinned by its rigorous processes and adherence to the scientific method. Its Fellows are also a source of transdisciplinary approaches to solving societal problems.
Convene
UNAS convenes innovators, executives, civil society leaders, government technocrats, and other interested stakeholders to shape new consensus on issues present and future. The Academy’s strategic focus has been to cultivate ongoing forums on broad issues that can act as sustained vehicles for evidence-driven discussion and research. These forums provide the infrastructure for networking and shared learning, but also to help participants develop foresight, build consensus, innovate, and align their actions towards common goals.
